About
Who We Are
Describing who we are--as you might read in a glossy brochure--is a simple task. Our 630-acre development is located in the Sandhills of central North Carolina just west and a little north of the world-renowned Pinehurst Resort. The gently rolling terrain is dotted with indigenous pines and scrub oaks. Its sandy hills gracefully unfold to embrace a glistening spring-fed lake. Miles of well-trodden bridle trails wind through the picturesque countryside. A full-service equestrian center, grassy paddocks and contented horses, complete this bucolic picture.
But none of those elegant words and glowing phrases tells you who we really are. To begin with, we don't think of McLendon Hills as a "development" or a "subdivision." We think of ourselves as a diverse "micro-community" where we care about each other's well-being and enjoy camaraderie while acknowledging everyone's individuality and their right to privacy. Sincere mutual respect fosters a genuine sense of community.
Our demographics have included newborns, toddlers, elementary school-agers, teenagers, middle-agers, and near octogenarians: working professionals, entrepreneurs and retirees. Some families were attracted to McLendon Hills by its beautiful and well-stocked lake. Others were enticed by the equestrian facilities and the fact that they may stable their horses on their own property. Some residents just enjoy the natural beauty and peacefulness of the area, knowing that friends are always nearby if needed.
Because of its healthy diversity and the wide range of interests of its residents, the folks here at McLendon Hills understand the need for at least a few community rules and regulations. Our Property Owners' Association is headed by a 5-member elected Board of Directors and supported currently by our own ARB (Architecture Review Board) and a number of functionally-oriented volunteer committees. The Board of Directors does its best to enforce the Restrictive Covenants, standards and rules fairly and consistently, always in the best interest of the community, and with as little imposition as possible.
So, who are we? We are like members of an extended family, each with divergent likes and dislikes, drawn together by a community that provides for our individual needs and gives promise to our hopes for the future. If you live here, you already know this; if you don't, you're welcome to join us.
